How to Read Your Results
The absence rate is the share of scheduled team hours recorded as absent; a lower rate means less scheduled time was lost.
The attendance rate is normally the complement of the absence rate, so the two percentages add to 100%.
Equivalent absence days convert hours to standard workdays and are useful for describing volume, not for comparing teams of different sizes alone.
Estimated attended hours are scheduled hours after absence hours are deducted; they are not a direct measure of productive hours.
Compare periods only when the reporting period, employee population, schedules, and absence categories are consistent.
Assumptions & Important Notes
- Every included person is represented by the same number of working days and scheduled hours per day.
- All absence hours are recorded in the same period as the scheduled hours.
- Results treat absence as time-based and do not distinguish the reason for absence.
- Figures are rounded for presentation, so small differences can occur from underlying unrounded values.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why can a team have more absence days but a lower absence rate?
A larger team or a longer reporting period has more scheduled hours. A greater number of absence days can therefore represent a smaller share of the total scheduled-hours base.
How should part-time employees be handled in an example?
For best accuracy, calculate their actual scheduled hours rather than applying a full-time daily schedule. You can total scheduled and absence hours across employee groups.
Can I compare a weekly example with a monthly example?
You can compare the percentage rates if both use comparable employee groups and absence definitions. Raw absence hours and days are less directly comparable.
Why are the short-shift absence days calculated using 6 hours?
Equivalent days use the scheduled hours per day entered for that team. A 36-hour absence equals six 6-hour days, but only 4.5 8-hour days.
