How to Read Your Results
The daily sick pay rate is an estimated gross value for one eligible working day of sickness absence.
Paid sick days are capped at the lower of sick days taken and the entered paid entitlement.
Gross sick pay is the pre-deduction amount for eligible days only.
Sick days outside entitlement are displayed separately because they may be unpaid or treated under another arrangement.
A result is an estimate; use the relevant contract and payroll method to confirm processing.
Assumptions & Important Notes
- Each example uses gross annual salary divided by the specified annual working-day count.
- Eligible sick days are paid at a constant normal daily rate.
- No deductions, statutory payments, waiting periods or tiered contractual rates are included.
- The entered paid sick leave entitlement is assumed to be available for the absence shown.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the calculator handle half sick days?
Yes. Enter decimal values such as 0.5, 2.5 or 3.5 where the relevant absence recording method allows them.
Why do two employees with the same salary have different daily rates?
They may use different working-days-per-year figures. A lower divisor produces a higher calculated daily rate.
Can I use these examples for payroll processing?
They are educational estimates. Confirm the applicable contract, policy, payroll method and current local rules before processing pay.
Do the examples include deductions?
No. Every result is a gross amount before payroll deductions and other adjustments.
