Absence Rates Career Progress (Annual) Calculator FAQ
Answers to common questions about annual absence rates, cumulative absence days, attendance rates, and career-period estimates.
This FAQ explains the calculator's inputs, formulas, and limits. The results are general time estimates and should not be used to infer an individual's workplace treatment or career prospects.
General questions
What the calculator measures and what it does not measure.
What does the Absence Rates Career Progress (Annual) Calculator do?
It converts an annual absence percentage into estimated absent days, attended days, cumulative career absence days, and equivalent working years.
Does the calculator predict career progression?
No. It measures estimated scheduled time only. Career progression depends on many factors not included in the calculation.
Who can use this calculator?
It can be used for any work pattern where you can identify typical scheduled working days and an annual absence rate.
Is this a measure of productivity or performance?
No. It does not measure productivity, performance, contribution, or capability.
Inputs and calculation
How values entered into the calculator are used.
What should I enter for working days per year?
Enter the scheduled or paid working days that match the basis used for your absence rate. Do not use days that were never scheduled to be worked.
What is an annual absence rate?
It is the percentage of scheduled working time estimated to be lost to absence in a year.
How is annual attendance rate calculated?
The calculator subtracts the annual absence rate from 100. For example, 3% absence gives 97% attendance.
How are attended days per year calculated?
Estimated annual absence days are subtracted from annual scheduled working days.
What does the progression-period input do?
It estimates absence days over a shorter chosen period, such as a five- or ten-year stage.
Results and interpretation
How to read the figures produced by the calculator.
What are career absence days?
They are estimated annual absence days multiplied by the selected career length.
What are equivalent working years missed?
They are cumulative career absence days divided by the working days entered for one year.
Why might the displayed total be rounded?
The underlying estimate can include partial days, while some outputs are displayed as rounded whole days for readability.
Can the equivalent working-years result be greater than one?
Yes. It can exceed one when cumulative absence days are greater than one year's scheduled working days.
Accuracy and assumptions
Factors that can make a personal result different from the estimate.
How accurate is the calculator?
It is arithmetically accurate for the values entered, but it is only an estimate because work patterns and absence rates can change.
Does the calculation allow for changing absence rates over time?
No. It applies one constant annual rate across the selected years.
Does it include holidays, leave, or workplace adjustments?
No. Include only working days appropriate to your own absence-rate basis; specific leave and employment arrangements are outside the calculation.
Can I use this result to assess workplace decisions?
No. The calculator cannot evaluate workplace decisions, policies, rights, support needs, or individual circumstances.
How do you calculate annual absence days?
Multiply working days per year by the annual absence rate divided by 100.
