Estimate how an expected absence rate and a job offer's paid absence allowance could affect your annual take-home employment income.

Your Details

Overview

Use this Absence Rates Job Offer Calculator to estimate how a job offer's annual salary and paid absence allowance could affect your income if you need time away from work. Enter your scheduled workdays, expected absence rate and the number of fully paid absence days available under the offer.

How it works

The calculator converts the absence rate into estimated missed workdays by multiplying it by your scheduled workdays. It subtracts the fully paid absence allowance to find any unpaid days. Your annual salary is divided by scheduled workdays to estimate daily pay, then multiplied by unpaid days to estimate pay at risk. This amount is deducted from the offered annual salary.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1Enter the gross annual salary in the job offer.
  2. 2Add the scheduled number of workdays for a full year.
  3. 3Enter an absence rate that reflects your own planning estimate.
  4. 4Enter the number of absence days paid in full by the employer.
  5. 5Review the estimated unpaid days, potential lost pay and annual income.

Frequently asked questions

What is an absence rate?

An absence rate is the share of scheduled work time missed over a period. In this calculator, it is expressed as a percentage of scheduled workdays in a year.

How are expected absence days calculated?

The calculator multiplies your scheduled workdays per year by the absence rate entered. For example, 2.5% of 260 workdays is 6.5 days.

Does this calculator include statutory sick pay or insurance payments?

No. It only compares gross salary with a simple fully paid absence allowance. Other payments, benefits and deductions are excluded.

Why might my actual pay differ from the estimate?

Actual pay can depend on your contract, absence policy, probation status, waiting days, payroll timing, part-time schedule, local rules and whether the absence is paid at full or reduced pay.

Can I use this calculator to compare two job offers?

Yes. Run the calculator once for each offer using its salary, working-day schedule and paid absence terms, then compare the estimated income and pay at risk.
