The previous absence rate is subtracted from the current absence rate. The result is shown in percentage points.
Why does the calculator divide by current period weeks?
It converts the overall rate change into an average weekly pace across the current reporting period.
Is absence rate change the same as percentage change?
No. The calculator reports percentage-point change. A move from 4% to 3% is -1 percentage point, rather than a percent-change calculation.

Enter total working days lost to absence across the team. Do not enter a count of employees unless each count has already been converted into lost workdays.
Can I compare periods with different lengths?
Yes. The calculator calculates a separate scheduled-days denominator and absence rate for each period.
Should I use headcount or full-time equivalent employees?
Use the measure that best aligns with your absence data. Where working patterns differ widely, accurate scheduled working days can be more representative than a simple headcount estimate.
What if team size changed during the period?
Use an average team size that reasonably reflects the period. A single headcount may be less representative when staffing changed materially.
Should holidays be included as working days?
Use usual scheduled workdays and ensure the approach is consistent across periods. If public holidays or shutdowns materially affect schedules, the estimate may be less precise.

Does a lower absence rate prove that a team is healthier or more productive?
No. The metric only summarizes recorded absence relative to scheduled time and does not establish causes or wider operational outcomes.
Why might the result change even when absence days are similar?
The scheduled working-day denominator can change because of period length, team size, or usual workdays per week.
Are short-period velocity results reliable?
They can be useful signals, but a small number of days in a short period can create a large movement. Reviewing several periods may provide additional context.
