Overview

Use this Accountants Sick Pay (Hourly) Calculator to estimate gross sick pay for an hourly-paid employee. Enter the normal hourly rate, scheduled sick leave hours, the percentage paid under the sick leave policy, and any hours that should remain unpaid.

How it works

The calculator removes unpaid sick hours from total sick leave hours to find eligible paid hours. It values those eligible hours at the normal hourly rate, then applies the paid sick leave percentage. It also compares the estimated sick pay with the normal gross pay value of all sick hours. This is a simple contractual sick pay estimate and does not determine statutory entitlement.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1Enter the employee's normal gross hourly pay rate.
  2. 2Add the scheduled working hours missed through sickness.
  3. 3Enter the percentage of normal pay payable for eligible sick leave.
  4. 4Add any waiting-period or other sick hours that are unpaid.
  5. 5Review the estimated gross sick pay and the difference from normal pay.

Estimated gross sick pay

$256.00

Frequently asked questions

How is hourly sick pay calculated?

For eligible hours, multiply the normal hourly rate by the number of paid sick hours and then by the sick pay percentage. Unpaid sick hours are excluded first.

What should I enter as unpaid sick hours?

Enter hours that do not qualify for paid sick leave, such as an unpaid waiting period or hours beyond the employee's contractual entitlement.

Does this calculator include statutory sick pay?

No. It estimates sick pay from the hourly rate and policy percentage you enter. Statutory eligibility and payment rules may require separate payroll checks.

Is the result gross or net sick pay?

The result is gross sick pay before tax, National Insurance or similar payroll deductions, pension deductions, and other adjustments.

Can I use different sick pay percentages?

Yes. Enter 100 for full pay, 80 for 80% pay, 50 for half pay, or another percentage specified by the relevant policy.
