How to Read Your Results

Net AOV is the estimated revenue retained per completed order after discounts and refunds.

Net sales show the total revenue remaining after the listed reductions.

Gross AOV provides a before-reductions benchmark for comparison with net AOV.

The discount and refund rate shows how much of gross sales was reduced, not the proportion of orders that were refunded.

Use the same reporting period and accounting treatment when comparing results over time.

Assumptions & Important Notes

  • Gross sales, reductions, and order counts are all measured over the same period.
  • Discounts and refunds are entered as positive amounts to be deducted from gross sales.
  • Completed orders follow a consistent internal definition.
  • Taxes, shipping, and fees are either excluded throughout or included throughout.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I calculate AOV for a week, month, or year?

Yes. Use any reporting period, provided every input covers that same period.

Why should I review both net and gross AOV?

Gross AOV shows the average before reductions, while net AOV shows the amount retained after discounts and refunds.

Can a promotion increase orders but lower net AOV?

Yes. A promotion may increase completed orders while lowering retained revenue per order through larger discounts.

Should partial refunds be included?

Include the value of partial refunds in the refund total if they relate to the reporting period and your chosen reporting method.
